Adirondack Loj Trailhead

Trailhead in High Peaks Wilderness

Adirondack Loj Trailhead

The Adirondack Loj Trailhead, located near Lake Placid, is one of the most popular starting points for hikes into the High Peaks region. It provides access to iconic peaks like Mount Marcy and Algonquin Peak. The trailhead is an ideal starting point for both day hikes and longer multi-day trips.

Carpark Capacity

Sep 2024

The carpark has a capacity of 196**

** Note: This across both Adirondack Loj and South Meadows parking lot areas because they are only ~1mi apart, and South Meadows often doubles as an overflow lot (and free alternative) for people looking to park at the Loj. See the section on overflow parking for more information.

Sometimes the parking lot will be signposted as “Full” but it’s worth driving into the lot areas to see if anybody has left since.

Fees

Sep 2024

The fees are paid to the parking attendant booth (if present) and they accept cash, check or credit card. If they are not present, you can use the booth drop box to leave a cash or check payment. Otherwise payment can also be made at the High Peaks Information Center (HPIC) or Adirondack Loj.

For non-Adirondack Mountain Club members:

  • $18/day to park anytime before 1pm
  • $10/day to pay anytime after 1pm

For Adirondack Mountain Club members:

  • $10/day
  • $5/half day

Members also have the option to purchase an annual pass.

You can pay inside the High Peaks Information Center, which is right alongside the parking lot. You can pay inside this Center with cash or by card (USD and CAD), and can also rent bear canisters from here. There’s a drop box (cash only) for parking lot payment if the Information Center is closed.

Overflow Parking

Sep 2024

You cannot park on either side of the Adriondack Loj Rd between the Loj parking lot and South Meadows Rd - if you do park, you’ll likely receive a $60 ticket at a minimum but there have been stories of larger tickets and being towed.

However, you can park at the designated parking lot at the intersection with South Meadows Rd, the Meadows Rd end with the trailhead OR north of Meadows Rd along the Adriondack Loj Rd’s east side (right hand side, if you’re heading away from the Loj parking).
